Everyone knows that stiffness of joints is so painful, and that an individual finds it difficult to make easy and comfortable movements. Both men and women can suffer from arthritis, which is a chronic disease. It is often believed that women with arthritis have an even more difficult time, especially when they are pregnant. There are many concerns that women have during pregnancy such as worrying about the baby, health of the baby, their own health etc, and rheumatoid arthritis just adds another thing to worry.

Fortunately, and perhaps surprisingly, this is not the case with every pregnant woman. Many women actually feel relieved of many symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, and see improvement in the disease during their pregnancy. But the condition can become worse soon after the baby is born. The only thing that women can do is to ensure that they get proper medication to keep the baby healthy. They must report every symptom to the doctor and ask about the side effects of medicines. It is necessary to know about the side effects, because there are some medicines that can cause birth defects in babies.

It is important to have a strong immune and support system during rheumatoid arthritis, so that women can take care of the child. As mentioned earlier, many women are not troubled with RA during pregnancies, and soon after the birth they face severe problems. It is not the case with every woman, as some women get worse during pregnancy. That's why women must be concerned about medications, when they plan to breastfeed. It is the time to talk to the doctor and get a suggestion.

It has been revealed in a research, that rheumatoid arthritis affects 1-2% of women during pregnancy. Some studies have also shown that the disease has a relation with maternal morbidity during pregnancy. In fact, pregnant and non pregnant women have similar morbidity rates. Hence it can be concluded that RA and pregnancy are not related to each other in any serious or fatal outcome. There are some rare cases of premature birth and reduced growth of babies caused due to arthritis. While talking about fatal outcome no such case with serious outcome has been reported.

Therefore, it can be said that a pregnant woman cannot have long-term illness. But when it comes to pregnancy and RA, there can be temporary changes in the health of a mother. Some women might not even show the slightest symptoms of RA during pregnancy.

Have you been diagnosed with drug induced Lupus ?
!0 years ago began having problem with elevated blood pressure. Was treated with the usually prescribed meds. Within the past ten years I have had a variety of unusual and often preplexing symptoms that the doctors couldn’t find good answers for. Lots of guesses and lots of unsuccessful treatments and increased frustration and misery until recently. The diagnosis is drug induced Lupus and it is believed to be caused by my blood pressure meds. Bingo. The symptoms have developed over the same period I’ve been on the meds. My question is: Any known effective alternatives for Blood Pressure Control? Anyone else with Lupus have bizarre skin and hair folllicle issues? Any one know a reputable doctor in Kansas City Missouri to advise on alternative treatments? Any one know of a web site to purchase alternative B/P treatments that you or someone you know have had personal experience with? Are there suggestions for a great support website for Lupus?

    1. Healing Oneself

      Hi WIngsOfGrace

Here are some ideas to heal the issue. Also learning about detoxifying the blood by doing colon and liver cleanses will change your health forever.

Food allergies (there is a 100 percent correlation between lupus and food allergies), rheumatoid arthritis, other connective tissue diseases, parasites, candidiasis, bowel problems, and digestive enzyme deficiencies can create symptoms that mimic or exacerbate SLE. Migraines, epilepsy, and psychoses must also be ruled out before a proper course of treatment can be decided upon.

Both forms of lupus primarily strike young women (90% of cases) and young children.

The drugs hydralazine, procainamide, and beta blockers can cause false-positive readings of SLE, and can also produce a lupus-like condition that disappears when the drugs are no longer taken. Birth control pills and environmental stresses can also exacerbate lupus symptoms.

      Natural Cures

Diet: Eat an organic, whole foods diet. Also avoid overeating and limit your intake of dairy, beef products, and polyunsaturated oils. Also screen for food allergies and avoid all foods to which you are allergic or sensitive. Increase your intake of vegetables, especially green, yellow, and orange, and consume non-farm-raised fish several times a week.

Herbs: Supplementation with Swedish bitters with each meal can increase hydrochloric acid production. Also drink an infusion of nettle twice a day. Other useful herbs include echinacea, goldenseal, licorice, pau d`arco, and red clover

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment.

Hyperthermia: Hyperthermia involves artificially creating fever in the body for the purpose of boosting immune function. Hyperthermia can be a highly effective method of eliminating toxins and heavy metals, as well as infectious bacteria and viruses that cannot survive in elevated body temperatures.

*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy or hyperthermia treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: Drink the juice of carrot, celery, flaxseed oil, black currant oil, and garlic.

Nutritional Supplementation: Hydrochloric acid (HCL) deficiency is common in people with lupus, therefore HCL supplements with each meal is advised. Other useful nutrients include vitamin A with beta carotene, vitamin C and bioflavonoids, vitamin B complex, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, essential fatty acids, proteolytic enzymes taken away from meals, digestive enzymes taken with meals, and the amino acids L-cysteine, L-methionine, and L-cystine.

Topical Treatment: PABA cream applied topically can help ease symptoms.

      Best of health to you

Methotrexate has caused birth defects and fetal death. Women must avoid becoming pregnant while taking this medication. Pregnant women who have psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis must not use methotrexate. (See also Precautions) If you have kidney problems or excess body water (ascites, pleural effusion), you must be closely monitored and your dose may be adjusted or stopped by your doctor. Methotrexate (usually at high dosages) has rarely caused severe (sometimes fatal) bone marrow suppression (decreasing your body’s ability to fight infections) and stomach/intestinal disease (e.g., bleeding) when used at the same time as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as indomethacin, ketoprofen). Therefore, NSAIDs should not be used with high-dose methotrexate. Caution is advised if you also take aspirin. NSAIDs/aspirin may be used with low-dose methotrexate such as for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis if directed by your doctor. If you are using low-dose aspirin (81-325 mg per day) for heart attack or stroke prevention, continue to take it unless directed otherwise. Consult your doctor regarding safe use of these drugs (e.g., close monitoring by your doctor, maintaining stable doses of NSAIDs). In rare instances, this drug may also cause liver problems when it is used for long periods of time. If you are using methotrexate long-term, a liver biopsy is usually recommended. Methotrexate use has rarely resulted in serious (sometimes fatal) lung problems, lung infections (Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia), skin reactions, diarrhea and mouth sores (ulcerative stomatitis). (See also Side Effects.) Lumps (tumors/abnormal growths) may very infrequently appear during methotrexate use. If this occurs, the drug must be stopped and treatment may be needed. Consult your doctor immediately if new lumps/growths occur. When used to treat tumors, methotrexate sometimes causes side effects due to the rapid destruction of cancer cells (tumor lysis syndrome). Tell your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms such as irregular heartbeat or muscle weakness. Although rare, this medication when used with radiation treatment may increase the risk of tissue and bone damage. Discuss the risks and benefits of your treatment plan with your doctor.

Can childhood traumas cause some delayed forms of depression and mental illness?
I know several people through out my life time that were fine when I was a kid and now many years later they’re either depressed or have some sort of mental issue. Could childhood traumas have triggered something so late in life?

    1. canada_winnipeg_man

      Childhood psychic trauma
appears to be a crucial etiological factor in the development of a number of serious disorders both in childhood and in adulthood. Like childhood rheumatic fever, psychic trauma sets a number of different problems into motion, any of which may lead to a definable mental condition. Studies suggest that characteristics related to childhood trauma appear to last for long periods of life, no matter what diagnosis the patient eventually receives. These are visualized or otherwise repeatedly perceived memories of the traumatic event, repetitive behaviors, trauma-specific fears, and changed attitudes about people, life, and the future.
Over the past several decades, research has increasingly shown that child maltreatment, defined as neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or emotional maltreatment, is a major social and public health problem that affects children from all cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic levels.

*Symptoms of post-traumatic stress are frequently found in traumatized children.
*Dissociative disorders are associated with a severe, prolonged physical and/or sexual abuse in childhood. Unable to physically escape, small children tend to employ dissociation to mentally escape traumatic events.
*Childhood maltreatment is also a risk factor for developing depression.
*Stress-related Disorders:Disorders associated with stress include chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma.
*Neural systems respond to prolonged, repetitive stress by altering their structural organization and functioning. Brain scans using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have demonstrated that maltreated children and adolescents with PTSD have significantly smaller intracranial and cerebral volumes than matched controls with no history of maltreatment.
*Researchers found that severe sexual trauma during childhood was associated with marked reductions in physical, emotional, and vocational functioning in his predominantly female sample. For instance, compared with age- and sex-matched controls, sexually abused patients had significantly higher rates of chronic depression, morbid obesity, and certain psychosomatic symptoms such as chronic gastrointestinal distress and recurrent headaches.
*Researchers have found that overall women who report a history of childhood abuse report problems in twice as many body systems as nonabused women.as panic, depression, musculoskeletal disorders, genito-urinary disorders, skin disturbance, and respiratory illness.
*In addition to poorer subjective health, childhood maltreatment has also been associated with serious health problems.
*Research has shown that individuals who have suffered interpersonal abuse at or before age 14 often develop significant problems with modulating anger and self-destructive and suicidal behaviors .

Maltreatment can alter a child’s physical, emotional, cognitive and social development and impact their physical and mental health throughout their lifetime. While we have yet to understand all of the ways which childhood maltreatment effects neurodevelopment, it is clear that the developing brain is exquisitely sensitive to and can be permanently altered by adverse experiences during childhood.
Unfortunately, while millions of children are maltreated each year, few resources are dedicated to solving the problem.

Finally, by preventing child maltreatment we save the staggering amounts of money spent annually dealing with its long-term consequences.
The most obvious savings would be in the lives of the children who will not suffer the devastating effects of neglect and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse!

Can Methotrexate from 3 years ago trigger a reaction in blood cells due to toxins?
Methotrexate is one of the drugs that can cause homosystiene, blood cell abnormalities and bone marrow problems Has been 3 years since last shot. Is it the cause of my Lymphocyte cells and Macrocytosis to trigger a serious allergy to a toxin that was never allergic to before, with horrible symptoms, Rapid weight loss, rhitinitus, sinus infections, no menses for 5 months while in the contaminated building. Once out of store, 2 wekks, blood got better, and got menses. Gaining back weight noe

    1. junaidi71

      Adverse effects
Possible side effects can include anemia, neutropenia, increased risk of bruising, nausea and vomiting, dermatitis and diarrhea. A small percentage of patients develop hepatitis, and there is an increased risk of pulmonary fibrosis.

The higher doses of methotrexate often used in cancer chemotherapy can cause toxic effects to the rapidly-dividing cells of bone marrow and gastrointestinal mucosa. The resulting myelosuppression and mucositis are often prevented (termed methotrexate “rescue”) by using folinic acid supplements (not to be confused with folic acid).

Methotrexate is a highly teratogenic drug and categorized in Pregnancy Category X by the FDA. Women must not take the drug during pregnancy, if there is a risk of becoming pregnant, or if they are breastfeeding. Men who are trying to get their partner pregnant must also not take the drug. To engage in any of these activities (after discontinuing the drug), women must wait until the end of a full ovulation cycle and men must wait three months.

There is a risk of a severe adverse reaction if penicillin is prescribed alongside methotrexate.

      Mode of action
Methotrexate competitively and reversibly inhibits dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), an enzyme that is part of the folate synthesis metabolic pathway. The affinity of methotrexate for DHFR is about one thousand-fold that of folate for DHFR. Dihydrofolate reductase catalyses the conversion of dihydrofolate to the active tetrahydrofolate. Folic acid is needed for the de novo synthesis of the nucleoside thymidine, required for DNA synthesis. Methotrexate, therefore, inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA, thymidylates, and proteins.

Methotrexate is cell cycle S-phase selective, and has a greater negative effect on rapidly dividing cells (such as malignant and myeloid cells), which are replicating their DNA, and thus inhibits the growth and proliferation of these cells.

Lower doses of methotrexate have been shown to be very effective for the management of rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. In these cases inhibition of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) is not thought to be the main mechanism, rather the inhibition of enzymes involved in purine metabolism, leading to accumulation of adenosine, or the inhibition of T cell activation and suppression of intercellular adhesion molecule expression by T cells (Johnston et al., 2005) [2].

What are the many benefits of being Vegan?
As long as I can remember I have been allergic to pork. I recently found out that I’m lactose and tolerant and Milk makes me break out and it makes my voice sound like crud. So all vegans, tell me why I should become one and what are the benefits? I want to hear your opinions.

    1. dna habitue

      Here are some:
Reduced saturated fats. Dairy products and meats contain a large amount of saturated fats. By reducing the amount of saturated fats from your diet, you’ll improve your health tremendously, especially when it comes to cardiovascular health.

More protein. That protein is good for your body is no surprise. It may be a surprise to learn that most Americans eat too much protein and in forms such as red meat that are not healthy ways of getting protein. Beans, nuts, peas, lentils, and soy products are all great ways to get the right amount of protein in a vegan diet.

      Disease Prevention:
Cardiovascular disease. Eating nuts and whole grains, while eliminating dairy products and meat, will improve your cardiovascular health.

Cholesterol. Eliminating any food that comes from an animal and you will eliminate all dietary cholesterol from your diet. Your heart will thank you for that.

Blood pressure. A diet rich in whole grains is beneficial to your health in many ways, including lowering high blood pressure.

Prostate cancer. A major study showed that men in the early stages of prostate cancer who switched to a vegan diet either stopped the progress of the cancer or may have even reversed the illness.

Breast cancer. Countries where women eat very little meat and animal products have a much lower rate of breast cancer than do the women in countries that consume more animal products.

Arthritis. Eliminating dairy consumption has long been connected with alleviating arthritis symptoms, but a new study indicates that a combination of gluten-free and vegan diet is very promising for improving the health of those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

      Physical Benefits
Body Mass Index. Several population studies show that a diet without meat leads to lower BMIs–usually an indicator of a healthy weight and lack of fat on the body.

Weight loss. A healthy weight loss is a typical result of a smart vegan diet. Eating vegan eliminates most of the unhealthy foods that tend to cause weight issues. Read more about weight loss and a vegan diet here.

Energy. When following a healthy vegan diet, you will find your energy is much higher. This blog post in Happy Healthy Long Life describes how NFL tight-end Tony Gonzalez started eating vegan and gained energy–while playing football.

Healthy skin. The nuts and vitamins A and E from vegetables play a big role in healthy skin, so vegans will usually have good skin health. Many people who switch to a vegan diet will notice a remarkable reduction in blemishes as well.

Longer life. Several studies indicate that those following a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle live an average of three to six years longer than those who do not.

Body odor. Eliminating dairy and red meat from the diet significantly reduces body odor. Going vegan means smelling better.

Bad breath. Vegans frequently experience a reduction in bad breath. Imagine waking up in the morning and not having morning breath.

Hair. Many who follow vegan diets report that their hair becomes stronger, has more body, and looks healthier.

Nails. Healthy vegan diets are also responsible for much stronger, healthier nails. Nail health is said to be an indicator of overall health.

PMS. When switching to a vegan diet, many women tell how PMS symptoms become much less intense or disappear altogether. The elimination of dairy is thought to help with those suffering with PMS.
Migraines. Migraine suffers who go on vegan diets frequently discover relief from their migraines.

Allergies. Reduction in dairy, meat, and eggs is often tied to alleviation of allergy symptoms. Many vegans report much fewer runny noses and congestion problems.

Animals. Many people begin a vegan diet out of concern for animals. Whether opposed to the conditions of animals intended for food or eating animals in general, going vegan will help your conscience rest easily.

Environment. Growing plants takes much fewer resources than growing animals. By eating vegan, you can help reduce the toll on the environment.

      E. coli. E. coli comes from eating contaminated red meat and is the leading cause of bloody diarrhea. Young children, those with compromised immune systems, and elderly people can become extremely ill or die from E. coli. Eating vegan means completely avoiding the risk of E. coli infection.

Salmonella. Another gastrointestinal illness from animal products, salmonella food poisoning is closely related to E. coli. The most frequent way people contract salmonella food poisoning is through contact with raw eggs or raw chicken meat from chickens infected with salmonella. Again, going vegan means eliminating this risk altogether.

Mad cow disease. It’s safe to say that most people would want to avoid contracting a fatal, non-treatable disease. One way to ensure you don’t get Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is by not eating animals infected with mad cow dis

    1. Pam1962

      Yes it is.

“Venereal arthritis is part of a group of conditions known as infectious arthritis, which is inflammation of the joint caused by a germ — a bacterium, a virus, or a fungus. Some cases of infectious arthritis result from food poisoning via salmonella bacteria. Others are caused by viruses such as mumps or infectious hepatitis. Most cases — including those involving gonococcal arthritis — can be cured if they’re treated promptly, but chlamydia-associated arthritis is less predictable.

Chlamydia — whether it causes arthritis or not — can be symptom-free or cause such mild symptoms that a person may not suspect anything is wrong. Men may have a slight discharge and pain during urination, especially in the morning. Women may also have a slight discharge, feel frequent urges to urinate, and experience some pelvic pain. Often, a woman doesn’t know she has chlamydia until she has her annual gynecological exam, and then only if her physician tests for sexually transmitted diseases.

Because chlamydia is so elusive, researchers believe there may be a wide gulf between reported and actual cases. This gap may also account for imprecise figures on the number of chlamydia cases that turn into arthritis. In 5 to 20 percent of cases, the bacterium known as Chlamydia trachomatis, a tiny organism, migrates from the genitals (or throat, from oral sex contact) to one or more joints, usually in the lower limbs: the knees, ankles, or feet. In about half those cases, chlamydia remains in the joints. Sometimes it leads to a condition known as Reiter’s Syndrome, which includes urinary tract problems and conjunctivitis.

The symptoms of chlamydia-associated arthritis also vary greatly. “Some people might just have an annoying pain in the knee, or just have one or two joints swollen, not dramatically so,” explains Ralph Schumacher, chief of rheumatology at the VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Schumacher oversees a clinic on unexplained arthritis and is an expert on the chlamydia-associated variety. “Others can be very, very sick.” Schumacher, who is Heller’s doctor, adds that he has seen people go into remission for years. “I have a couple of patients who are up fishing in Canada right now, and they’ve had [the disease] for 30 years.”

What physical health benefits does yoga bring?
Im doing yoga at the moment, and I want to know more about it and how it will improve my health 🙂

    1. Rose .

Yoga, the Sanskrit word for “union”, is a practice that uses posture and breathing techniques to induce relaxation and improve strength, and its health benefits may surpass those of any other activity. Whether you practice yoga to relax, stretch, breathe, meditate, or simply because it’s in fashion, you may not realize the numerous health benefits of yoga. And while there are many different kinds of yoga, ranging from the more gentle hatha yoga to the more strenuous, like Bikram yoga (which is performed in a 105°F room) or power yoga, every form of yoga improves your health from head to toe. Here are some of yoga’s many health benefits.

Benefits of Yoga to Your Bones, Muscles, and Joints
•The physical benefits of yoga are myriad. Yoga keeps your body strong, as it involves all the muscles in your body to hold and balance yoga asanas (poses). The various yoga postures strengthen your feet, legs, hands, abdominals, lower back, legs, and shoulders.
•Yoga’s stretching and breathing exercises improve your flexibility, helping joints, tendons, and muscles stay limber. People suffering from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis will see a noticeable improvement in their stiffness, pain, and other arthritic symptoms by practicing yoga poses and postures.
•Yoga improves your endurance, especially the more athletic forms of yoga such as ashtanga yoga, power yoga, vinyasa yoga, and Bikram yoga. These rigorous yoga practices follow a specific sequence of poses (asanas) that become more challenging as you progress. Unlike the more gentle hatha yoga, the forms of ashtagna yoga, power yoga, vinyasa yoga, and Bikram yoga require you to keep your body in constant motion between poses, resulting in a strenuous cardiovascular workout and improved core strength.
•Hatha yoga can relieve chronic back and neck pain, since the poses and postures gently stretch and strengthen your back and neck muscles.
•Yoga is often prescribed to help heal various injuries, including repetitive strain injuries, knee and back injuries, pulled hamstrings, even minor skin burns. Of course, you should consult your physician before using yoga as a treatment for any injury!
•Yoga is an excellent weight-bearing exercise that can improve your bone density. This is particularly beneficial for women approaching menopause, since yoga can help ward off osteoporosis, or thinning of the bone.

Benefits of Yoga to the Cardiovascular System
Yoga has tremendous health benefits for your heart. Most notably:
•The gentler forms of yoga lower your blood pressure because the asanas (yoga poses, postures, and yoga positions) keep blood flowing evenly throughout your body while you focus on your breathing.
•People suffering from hypertension can benefit from yoga tremendously, as hatha yoga can lower your heart rate and blood pressure.
•Many practitioners claim that yoga has also lowered their cholesterol.
•Power yoga is an excellent form of cardio conditioning, which strengthens core muscles while it keeps blood and oxygen circulating throughout your body.

Benefits of Yoga on Mental Health
•Yoga benefits anyone’s mental health by helping him or her relax, and it is an effective form of psychological therapy. Yoga reduces anxiety and stress, resulting in better health, better mood, and better concentration throughout the day. Yoga has been used to help treat a wide variety of emotional and mental disorders, including acute anxiety, depression, and mood swings.
•Even children can benefit from yoga. Those with attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity can learn to relax and get control by using yoga breathing and yoga asanas.
•Because yoga is a form of meditation, it results in a sense of inner peace and purpose, which has far-reaching health benefits.
•Yoga has been used to help heal victims of torture or other trauma.

Benefits of Yoga on Other Health Conditions
•Do you have frequent headaches? Yoga can rid you of tension headaches and migraines because yoga circulates blood and oxygen to your head, which can often prevent headaches from starting.
•A regular yoga practice helps boost antioxidants throughout your body, resulting in a stronger immune system and improved ability to heal quickly from disease or injury.
•Yoga can help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight throughout your life. Power yoga is a vigorous form of yoga that burns calories, resulting in weight loss.
•Many women going through menopause report an easing of symptoms when they begin practicing yoga.

Benefits of Yoga in Everyday Life
•Yoga can help cure insomnia, as regular yoga practice leads to better and deeper sleep.
•Yoga can help fight fatigue and maintain your energy throughout the day.
•Yoga is an effective treatment for a variety of autoimmune diseases because it can reduce the symptoms these diseases often cause, such as stiffness, malaise, fatigue, and weakness.
Regular yoga practice will create multiple and noticeable benefits to your health

What is the difference between arthritis and gout?
I think the symptoms are the same, but a friend was recently diagnosed with gout, so I was just wondering.

    1. Dr.dhananjaya

      Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disorder that occurs when the tissue is being overtaken by the immune system and then swelling is noticed in the joints of the wrists and fingers. Researchers who are studying arthritis have found that this type generally occurs in women from the age of 25 to 55. It’s important to know that getting treatment when symptoms are first detected will prevent more damage to the joints. Diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis is done by blood tests to analyze the rheumatoid factor in your blood and with x-rays. Treatment will vary from one person to the next, depending on what stage the disease is at.

Gout is caused by monosodium urate crystals building up in the joints and tissues. This form of arthritis is more prevalent in men as they approach their mid 40’s, but women can get it too. Gout presents itself as painful swollen joints that become purple and hot. Some people may experience chills and a fever. To properly diagnose gout, your doctor will need to get a sample of the synovial fluid from the swollen joint. The fluid sample is then examined under a microscope to look for the presence of needle shaped urate crystals. A low dose aspirin, certain diuretics, and diet changes can help reduce the risks of gout.

What can rheumatoid arthritis lead to in the future if left untreated?
Are there any treatment options?. if so, what are they?? (This is for a project i have so long answers are PERFECT haha)…thank you:)

    1. norton g

precious- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory disease affecting about 2.1 million people, and causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. Several features make it different from other kinds of arthritis – such as generally occurring in a symmetrical pattern. This means that if one knee or hand is involved, the other one also is. The disease often affects the wrist joints and the finger joints closest to the hand, but it can also affect other parts of the body besides the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs in all races and ethnic groups. Although the disease often begins in middle age and occurs with increased frequency in older people, children and young adults also develop it. Like some other forms of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis occurs much more frequently in women than in men.
Today, research in animal models of arthritis and on tissue from patients undergoing joint replacement provide remarkable insight into the disease process. Additionally, better understanding of the inflammatory process identified several molecules to be studied for new drug development. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), a molecule involved in immune-system regulation, was found in
high levels in the blood and joints of animals and people with arthritis which blocks the disease in
animals. As little as a single dose of these agents can seem to be a “miracle drug” to patients – eliminating symptoms, increasing energy and decreasing inflammation. Even more striking is the ability of these molecules to halt the progression of joint destruction and even repair bone and cartilage.

The difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arethis:Osteoarthritis is known as degenerative joiont disease. It is the most common form of arthritis results from wear and tear on the joints, specially weight-bearing joints such as the hips and knees. As the disease progresses, the stress to the joints results in degeneration of the joint cartliage. The joint space becomes narrower.Symptoms include:jointsoreness, and pain, stiffnessin the mornings, and aching.Joint movement mayelicit clicking and crackling sounds known as crepitation. You may also experience a decrease of range of motion of a joint . rheumatoid arthritis is chronic, systematic, inflammatory disease that affects multiple joints of the body-mainly the small peripheraljoints such as those in the hands and feet. Larger such as wrists, shoulders, elbows, ankles, knees and hips. The disease affects people age 20 and 40 . Women are affected three times more then men.It is characterized by joint pain, limitation of movement.
